Posted May 08, 2018 04:00:00The NRL will hold a press conference today to unveil the scheme to build a new venue at the Roosters’ training ground at AAMI Park.
It is believed the first round of funding for the $15 million project is expected to be handed to the NRL later this month.
It will take more than two years to complete, and the NRL hopes to begin playing in 2018.
The club has already agreed to pay for the first phase of the new venue, and has secured $2 million in additional funding from the state.
The NRL has also agreed to a $5 million loan from the NSW Government, and a $1 million loan each from Victoria and New South Wales.
The rest of the money will come from the existing funding pool.
The Roostergate will be constructed with mixed-use residential and commercial spaces in the west of the venue, a ground-floor retail area and an outdoor sports centre.
The stadium, expected to open in 2021, will feature a state-of-the-art digital scoreboard and will be a major venue for the competition.
The $15.7 million project will be funded through a two-year construction and design grant.
It follows a three-year $15 billion stadium project in Melbourne which was announced last year.
